The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries will be supporting the development and installation of an aquaponics and food garden project at Clan Carthy High School in Kingston.

This will be done through the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) with the provision of fry and technical support.

The declaration was made by Chief Executive Officer of the NFA, Dr. Gavin Bellamy, who was representing Portfolio Minister Floyd Green, at the launch of the green thumbs AquaEd school garden project at the school on Wednesday.

The project, spearheaded by CARICOM youth ambassadors, aims to build the capacity of students and staff in climate-resilient agricultural practices, while promoting food security and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Bellamy said the initiative is aligned with Jamaica’s commitment to lead aquaculture development for the region.
