The National Fisheries Authority

The National Fisheries Authority (NFA) was established as a body corporate, pursuant to Section 5(1) of the Fisheries Act, 2018, with the mandate being that the Authority will be responsible for the management and development of fisheries and aquaculture. The Authority is, therefore, the sole body with the responsibility of ensuring that there is conservation of Jamaica’s fisheries, collection, compilation, and analysis of statistics for the sector, monitoring, control and enforcement of activities related to fisheries and aquaculture; as well as, granting of licences, authorisations and permits and allocation of fishing rights and quotas for all who intend to fish in Jamaica’s waters.

To facilitate the sustainable development of the Jamaican fisheries sector, including aquaculture, through effective and efficient management, regulation, administration, and participatory governance for the benefit of all Jamaicans.
